... hello Anders:

... are very good.  In fact, from the photographs, too good for a first work.  Keep trying.

Quite honestly, wraps are beyond me.  That's why I had to step away from rod making.  I think your good light
and lens must help a lot.

Sharon and I are looking forward to seeing you next summer.

Joe

Ps: Please forgive me for not writing more, but after my father's stroke, the last several weeks have been very hard.

Also, you might laugh, but I think the little place you and your father stayed in will be filled up next July.  Time for under
the stars!  Hope the bears don't get hungry!

But, you don't have to worry, I can't run as fast as you ...

Anders,

That rod you are making is looking really nice!!! The color thread you picked is a great color! In fact I used the same color on a rod I built not too long ago!! It is good to see you took the cowboy hat off to wrap, it would be tough to wrap with it hitting the lamp all the time!! If you keep up this great work, I am going to stop making rods and just pay you to build them for me!! Very very nice indeed!! Keep going, because it looks great!!

Thank you for your kind comments Joe and Paul.

Joe.
It wasn`t that hard to wrap with the magnifying glass and it got much easier up the tip.
As for somewere to stay, we have already booked a room at the RV park so no worries about the bears although cougers are more of my concern.  Cool

Paul.
The 4x beaver is awesome, thank you!! It is my flyfishing hat now. I love it.  Cheesy  I told dad he needed a hat also so he got one for himself. I think it`s from Australia.

It will be fun to meet you on the metolius and maybe go fishing together?

After wrapping dad put a little flexcoat on the thread to lock it and to get it transculent.

I cut the ends with a razorblade after it had cured.

After that I cast the rod in the snow. I likes a 6wt.

Cool.

I think the rod got a nice Garrison style to it. Good choice of silk colours.  Cool

The dip tube is set up at the shop now so it was time for me to varnish the wraps. It was easier with a stick than with a brush.

While the varnish is curing I stole some brass cap hardware from the old man and put together a rod tube.   Wink

Its been a while since I checked in.  Looks like you made a lot of progress Anders, and the rod is looking fantastic!

Are you going to bring it to Camp Sherman this year?  I'd love to give it a cast.

Great looking cap.  Wink

Anders,

Wow!!! Great progress!! The rod looks fantastic!! By the way, the tube hardwear is incredible.......I may have you steal more from your Dad and send it to me!!!! Grin I am really looking forward to meeting you at Camp Sherman (Provided they don't send me away to fight fires!!). It will be a fantastic trip. I will be driving up, so if there is something from the states that you desire to have, let me know and I will see what I can work out!!! I have some shirts and a poster I am bringing up for your Dad. Oh, and bring your rod!! We can go fish together!!

My Best,

Thank you, Paul. Looking forward to meet you at Camp Sherman. We can go fishing on the Metolius. We are planning to fish it on Friday and Monday. If you are around by then it would be great if you joined us. As said I will bring the rod as well as my favorite, which is the first bamboo rod my dad made and then gave it to me.

The tube brass caps are very nice, I belive he gets them from Bill at one-pfoot.

Anders

Ps. The Resistol is getting a bit soiled...  Cool

Sanding before the last coat of varnish.

Only thing left after dipping was to get the reelseat on.

Here is the finished rod. I am proud of it. I want to say thanks to Jim Loucks for the blank and I hope that he is reading this.

I want to say thanks to dad for helping me getting started with this rod building thing. We had some great time in the shop. Also, thanks to you guys cheering me up in the thread.

I´m proud of you son at it was a delight to be able to spend time in one of my favourite places with my favourite guy.  Cheesy

What strikes me is your patience and your determination when you were working on that stick. I think it came out very good, way over any expectations I had in the beginning as I know how tricky some of the stuff are when not used to it. You managed it all. I will be glad to guide you further if you decide to take up rodmaking.

For you guys reading this, we attended a little split cane gathering today and I was able to cast the rod on water for the first time. It´s a tough little seven footer and both me and the kid likes it with a 6wt. Jim did a good job on the blank.

You have a (another) fine rod there Anders.   Cool
